We all loaded into my friends blue Pinto Wagon and headed the meadowlands for this one. I remember the weather being about 75-80 degrees and when we pulled into the parking lot when the Giants game was letting out....We all had great fun at this one. We cooked out and my friends hibachi stove was stolen...Kind of a funny scene afterwards when my friend Pete was deperately looking for his stove while tripping. Even more fun trying to find our hotel under the influence.....We happened to get stuck in the middle of the gate crashers and had full tickets for the next night after erasing the 0 on the ticket and forging a 1 in its place. The show was pretty good although Jerrys vocals at this time were kind of fading and spotty.
The next day my friend Tony and I managed to find a cookout in the parking lot to cook our bag of chicken as well as a ride back to Groton after finding a Connecticut plate in the parking lot. Those were the days...

It's a dandy! Neat-o mix. I just have a bug for the Shoeps and Oade set-up...

With passionate regard to later era Strangers, check out 6-26-93, as well as the other treats in the second set, most notably the 30 plus minutes of Playin>Terrapin. Beautiful sunny day on the grass in RFK with prevalent beer and sting taboot! I believe Garcia sat in on Walkin on the Moon or was it Tea in the Sahara... Anyway, not too many leter-era gems but the 6-26-93 is the "extended dance version." Props to the first person who can identify the speaker of that quote... show and venue!!

I submitted a more detailed review on another link for this show, but, after reading through the comments, I would have to agree with Harold that I have yet to encounter a more brilliant Stranger. I'm most stunned by the mix, especially the high modulation on Bobby.
I loved shows at the Byrne! These were some of my favorite (but still no match for the April 83 ones that featured guest performances by Stephen Stills;).

Harold, no way am I going to compare "strangers", but I say check out 7-4-81. I really dig it and it also has an interesting placement in the set, much like this one. Also, if you can believe it, check out the second night in san Diego Dec 1993. Very strong latter day stranger
Good show. The North east portion of this tour is not bad.

I disagree with this being the "Best Stranger." But I guess it depends what qualities you are looking at.

Harold you've right about that Stranger...very nice. And overall a great show and recording. Love the big, rich sound of the Oade recordings
Another nice Stranger:
3/23/87 - listen with head phones. And it's also played late in the first set like this one. Doesn't have that ending jam, but overall I think has more energy. http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=15967

If anyone knows of a better Feel Like a Stranger, I'd like to hear it. If you've never heard this Feel Like a Stranger, you need to! I think it's the best one ever, but even if you don't, you'll still be amazed at how well they ended this one. Talk about a SCREAMING ending, wow.
Half-Step > I Know You Rider was a great novelty. That's something you expect from Phil & Friends or the Other Dead, but not the GD. It was so cool to see. I loved this show. We had tickets to the Giants game that day too but ended up arriving halfway through the 4th quarter. They wouldn't let anyone into the parking lots until the Giants game was over. We show up and the guard immediately turns us away. We flash our Giants tickets and whaddya know, all of a sudden he opens the gate. We got a great parking spot.
Also, the name of this venue was NOT 'Meadowlands Arena'.... it was Brendan Byrne Arena. Yes, it's at the Meadowlands, but so is Giants Stadium. And Giants Stadium is not 'Meadowlands Stadium'.
